Extremums Overview

Extremums Overview

Overview: Extremums and Polar Extremums allow you to create geometry at the extremes of an element. There are two types of extremums, the standard extremum which requires a reference direction, and the polar extremum which requires an origin and reference direction.

These commands are only available with the Generative Shape Design 2 product.

Polar Extremum

You can only create polar extremums on planar and connex geometry (non-connex geometry is geometry which is open or is self-intersecting on non-continuous curves).

Unlike the Extremum operation, you cannot pick surfaces and solid geometry on which to create a polar extremum. Instead, you pick curves, referred to as the 'contour', to create the extremum on. After selecting the contour, you define the Support that the curves lie on and then you define the axis and direction from which the extremum is measured. The four options available in Polar Extremum are Min Radius, Max Radius, Min Angle, and Max Angle. For Min and Max radius, CATIA creates a point at the shortest and longest distance from the origin to the contour, respectively. For min and max angles, CATIA creates a point at the minimum and maximum angle on the contour, with respect to the reference direction.
